Gordon's professional background is in Mental Health Nursing and he remains actively involved. He was the first (and for many years the only) Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Mental Health in Ireland.  He is the Nursing representative to The Specialist Advisory Group to the HSE on Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). 
He holds a Masters in Child & Adolescent Analytic Psychotherapy from Trinity College Dublin. 
He has worked for three decades in Child & Adolescent Mental Services in clinical, management and Service Planning roles. 
He was CAMHS advisor to the planning group for "Vision for Change" the policy document for Mental Health Services in Ireland. 
He has extensive teaching and training experience within the HSE as well as in Dublin City University and other colleges.
He has pioneered and published radical clinical delivery systems aimed at reducing waiting lists while delivering best possible service to service users.
