We hurt and struggle in many ways.
Anxiety can take control of our life.
Depression and low mood also.
Trauma, from the past can make living in the present really hard.
Issues relating to our body, sexuality and gender can overwhelm us.
Loss, grief, bereavement can be unbearable.
Neurodivergence, assessed or just felt, can make things that others seem to manage fine, feel overwhelming to ourselves.
Relationship difficulties and all sort of things can make our daily living much harder.
Problems with physical and emotional intimacy can be hard to talk about even with friends or the others involved
Sometimes it seems like the more we try to grapple with these things inside our own heads, the worse they seem to get.
It is possible to help with all these things.
Counselling or Therapy can help with issues in our lives - big and small. Talking through, developing an understanding of why we are this way and working out ways to mange them a bit better can really help.
I am a highly qualified and experienced Therapist working with adults, young people, couples and families.
I work with all these issues and the many difficulties we encounter in our lives and our relationships.
As a seasoned therapist, I specialise in navigating the intricate interplay between past traumas and present functioning. My approach is grounded in the understanding that our past significantly influences our current state of being. I am committed to helping clients uncover and make connections and understand these things to foster healing and growth
I may use a neurobiological model to explain our responses to learned or experienced stimuli.
I advocate for the recognition and appreciation of neurodiversity, emphasising the inherent strengths and capabilities of each individual.
The approach needs to suit the individual. There is no "one size fits all" in therapy. I believe that individuals have, within themselves, resources that can help to deal with things that happen in our life. Sometimes we can loose touch with these things in the midst of all the negativity and turmoil that is also part of life. I try to help people find their strengths and work with people in the way that suits them best.
Labels and diagnoses are not the focus of my work. I prefer to understand what is happening and why, and learn ways of dealing with and managing ourselves and our problems.
I like to find ways we can use skills we may not have known we had, to make practical change.
Experience and training allow me to work in most situations - and to know when another service is needed.
Gordon provides Support across the broadest range of emotional / mental health issues for individuals and those close to them
